The Sheffield Region is set to become the centre of excellence for the R&D and manufacture of the UK’s next generation of civil nuclear power stations.
The Rolls-Royce Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (NAMRC), located at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP), will be a centre of excellence for research and development of advanced manufacturing technologies that will deliver step change, lower cost, high-integrity components to the UK nuclear industry.

Rolls Royce have also confirmed that there will be a civil nuclear manufacturing plant built in the region, which will produce large pressure vessels – drums 30 metres (98ft) across – for nuclear reactors.
As with other sectors there are a number of Sheffield region companies that produce high quality components for the civil nuclear industry, including Davy Markham and Sheffield Forgemasters. Forgemasters are currently looking to secure funding, which will enable it to install the country's first 15,000 tonne forging press to make ultra-large civil nuclear components.
